Foot Pain – Heel Spurs

Heel Spurs

A heel spur is a bony growth that develops on the base of the heel due to repeated stress and strain on the ligaments and tendons around it. It is often associated with plantar fasciitis, which is caused by stress and strain on the plantar fascia triggering the body’s stress response and the formation of a spur.

Activities that put high impact on the heel such as running on hard surfaces, ballet, and jumping, along with obesity, advanced age and abnormalities in walking are risk factors for heel spurs.

Although heel spurs can be asymptomatic, they can cause symptoms similar to plantar fasciitis such as sharp, stabbing pain that worsens after high-impact activity or prolonged rest. The heel may also be red, swollen or hot to the touch.

An insole that supports the arch can reduce stress and strain on the foot’s ligaments and tendons, which can alleviate symptoms of heel spurs. The addition of a gel pad under the heel of the insole will provide cushioning and reduce impact to the heel with shock absorption.

The insoles we recommend for heel spurs are: PRIMO (1), POSA (2), PELUCHE (3), PURA (5) or PRECISO (6)
